HISTORY LAYMEN MINISTRY
The National Baptist Laymen were organized in 1923 in Los Angeles, California. The first president was John L. Webb of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Dr. L. K. Williams, who was the president of the National Baptist Convention, appointed Brother Webb. This was one of the first tasks of Dr. Williams after he became president. Brother Webb served from 1923 to 1946. The New Mt. Zion Laymen's Ministry has been active for the past thirty-three (33) years. The laymen who were instrumental in starting this ministry were Deacons Uler Haggerty and C. W. Gentry. They had a strong Christian desire and were committed to organizing Laymen Ministry hi accordance with the directive to do the Lord's will. The action and vision attributed to these pioneers has evolved and currently is a reality in the form of a strong men's group at New Mt. Zion. The legacy established by these visionary men assures that our primary focus, which is to win lost souls, supports our Pastor and program of the church and to "Let our Light shine so others may see it" is still very evident today.
